【摘要】:Thepurposeofthispracticeistodescribeaprocedureforin-line-eddy-currentexaminationofhotcylindricalbarsintherangeofdiameterslistedin1.2forlargeandrepetitivediscontinuitiesthatmayformduringprocessing.Thediscontinuitiesinbarproductcapableofbeingdetectedbytheelectromagneticmethodarelistedin1.3.1.Themethodiscapableofdetectingsurfaceandsomesubsurfacediscontinuitiesthataretypicallyintheorderof0.030in.(0.75mm)anddeeper,butsomeshallowerdiscontinuitiesmightalsobefound.Discontinuitiesthatarenarrowanddeep,butshortinlength,arereadilydetectablebybothprobeandencirclingcoilsbecausetheycauseabruptfluxchanges.Surfaceandsubsurfacediscontinuities(iftheelectromagneticfrequencyprovidessufficienteffectivedepthofpenetration)canbedetectedbythismethod.Discontinuitiessuchasscratchesorseamsthatarecontinuousanduniformforthefulllengthofcutlengthbarsorextendforextensivelineardistancesincoiledproductmaynotalwaysbedetectedwhenencirclingcoilsareused.Thesearemoredetectablewithprobecoilsbyinterceptingthediscontinuityintheirrotationaroundthecircumference.Theorientationandtypeofcoilareimportantparametersincoildesignbecausetheyinfluencethedetectabilityofdiscontinuities.Theeddycurrentmethodissensitivetometallurgicalvariationsthatoccurasaresultofprocessing,thusallreceivedsignalsabovethealarmlevelarenotnecessarilyindicativeofdefectiveproduct.1.1Thispracticecoversproceduresforeddy-currentexaminationofhotferromagneticbarsabovetheCurietemperaturewheretheproductisessentiallynonmagnetic,butbelow2100x00B0;F(1149x00B0;C).1.2Thispracticeisintendedforuseonbarproductshavingdiametersofx00BD;in.(12.7mm)to8in.(203mm)atlinearthroughputspeedsupto1200ft/min(366m/min).Largerorsmallerdiametersmaybeexaminedbyagreementbetweentheusingparties.1.3Thepurposeofthispracticeistoprovideaprocedureforin-lineeddy-currentexaminationofbarsduringprocessingforthedetectionofmajororgrosssurfacediscontinuities.1.3.1Thetypesofdiscontinuitiescapableofbeingdetectedarecommonlyreferredtoas:slivers,laps,seams,roll-ins(scale,dross,andsoforth),andmechanicaldamagesuchasscratches,scores,orindentations.1.4Thispracticedoesnotestablishacceptancecriteria.Theymustbespecifiedbyagreementbetweentheusingparties.1.5Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.ThevaluesgiveninparenthesesaremathematicalconversionstoSIunitsthatareprovidedforinformationonlyandarenotconsideredstandard.1.6Thispracticedoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthispracticetoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
